Episode 42: Andy Puddicombe

I’m no stylist or fashion blogger, but I do know what looks good on my body. As much as I’d like to wear workout clothing 24/7 (I seriously would too) I know that it’s not always professional to show up to a meeting or an interview with yoga pants on, so I embarked on a journey to buy clothing that I could wear for multiple different occasions without spending a ton of money.
J.Crew is a store I’ve always supported and shopped at ever since I went full-time blogging, because as you guys know I don’t get any financial support from anyone, so I’m very careful with what I spend money on. As you get older you’ll start to feel like dressing more professionally is important, because in many situations you have one chance to impress someone. That might mean a job interview, a college interview, or an acting interview! I grew up shopping at stores like Kohl’s, JCPenney and TJ.Maxx, and I still shop at those stores when I’m back on the East Coast. I’ve waited a while to do a closet revamp because I didn’t think spending money on clothing was necessary (why buy clothes when you could buy food, right?) but when J.Crew sent me a 30% off discount code I decided to journey in and see what I could find.
To look at everything I purchased watch the video above, and you can buy everything at J.Crew. Or, download Poshmark (my favorite shopping app) where you can find a lot of items for less. You don’t have to spend a ton to feel confident!

Meghan Asha is the CEO of FounderMade, a platform and conference series that connects best-in-class consumer brands to retailers, distributors and investors. Under her leadership, FounderMade has partnered with innovative brands including RXBar, BulletProof Coffee, Vital Proteins, Target and Starbucks.
I had the opportunity to interview Meghan last week at my office for Episode 43 of This is Life Unfiltered airing next week, and I couldn’t help but fall in love with her and her incredible company. She’s the type of person who you meet and know immediately is such a genuine and passionate person- I respect her drive and authenticity so much!!! Before her episode airs next week, I wanted to promote her consumer discovery show (sounds super fancy, is actually going to be an awesome conference- and I’ll be there!) on October 4th so you can buy tickets before they sell out.
“With the firm belief that entrepreneurs need support and connection, she began bringing together business contacts from those earlier jobs as part of an intimate dinner series — which eventually evolved into FounderMade.”
Buy tickets and make sure to tune into Episode 43 next week of This is Life Unfiltered to hear her episode!

I’ve never been super confident with my body. I don’t love my waist. I don’t love my hips. I really like my legs and my arms. But I’m not going to lie and say that I look at my body everyday and love what I see. I used to have an eating disorder which will be with me for the rest of my life. As much as I want to say that that chapter of my life has closed, I battle truly loving every part of my body everyday. One day I may love my hips and my waist but right now I struggle with accepting those parts of my body just the way that they are. Because of my insecurities I’ve always been really self-conscious in the gym: I workout 6 days a week and make exercise a huge part of my life, but I find myself always questioning how I look when I’m exercising. Sometimes I walk in feeling really confident and sometimes I walk in feeling more insecure than I usually do!
Dancing is something I’ve never been too good at or tried, but I go to a class in LA called Body by Simone frequently and have realized how much I enjoy dancing. I’m surrounded by tons of other people in the class so I don’t put too much focus on myself- but I’m always questioning how I look and if I could dance better. So, I made it my Fearless Friday this week to learn hip-hop dancing and stop feeling ashamed of how I look when I’m dancing because no one else’s opinion matters besides MINE!
Thank you Tiffany at Moore Dancing in Brentwood, CA for helping me learn how to dance and feel confident in my own skin!

I’ve been getting a lot of questions on how to listen and where to find Radio Disney. Here’s where to find Radio Disney:
Listen on the Radio Disney app on your phone/iPad/Kindle

Wearing J Brand Jeans, Ann Taylor shoes, Zara jacket, One Teaspoon top
This morning I got breakfast with my friend/mentor Izabella, who appeared a few weeks ago on This is Life Unfiltered. Every time I see her we manage to talk for so long about a range of topics, usually relating to entrepreneurship and running a company. Izabella wears a ton of hats and is an actress along with maintaining a strong side-hustle (I’m talking Postmates, Uber Eats, and everything else) which I think is so rad. She has no shame in saying that she’d rather be working 16-hour days to follow her dreams.
Respectable.
She’s never worked for a corporate job and I recently took on an (exciting) corporate job (and even though it’s my own show) there are tons of new rules I have to abide by. After years of running this on my own, I honestly enjoy going into an office that’s not my WeWork office a few days a week. I feel like I finally have a sense of community that I’ve never had. Over gluten-free pancakes & an omelette this morning, we talked about how many young people are out there struggling to find their passion. We talked about how many older people are out there working corporate jobs or not working at all and finding themselves wishing they were pursuing something else in life.
More often than not I find most people don’t know where to start and that’s when they become frustrated and confused, leading them to not begin anything at all. Over the next few months I’ll be speaking at different colleges and high schools on the topic of building a brand and finding the right angle to set yourself apart: I’m looking forward to talking directly to young people to find out what is holding them back from following their dreams. I only know what I know from my personal experiences and experiences people around me have had, and everyone has a totally different story. It’s incredibly scary: as most founders will tell you, the lack of consistent income and support is the hardest part of being an entrepreneur. Even when you’re “successful” you’ll still play mind tricks with yourself: like is it paying off, just because I’m financially stable now will I be tomorrow, and am I totally nuts for thinking this will one day pay off?
But I can’t put words together to describe the feeling you get when you see the results you’ve been dreaming of.
Like getting my own show on Radio Disney.
or even getting some nice free clothing you emailed a brand about.
Fear of the unknown is what prevents most people from starting their own journey. But isn’t the fear of not starting one at all worse than starting and not succeeding on your first attempt?

I met Sarah Gaines back when I lived in Boston and hosted a dinner with Ann Shoket. Immediately upon meeting Sarah I felt incredibly inspired by her story and drive. She’s a 25-year-old entrepreneur from Boca Raton, FL who attended Northeastern University before starting Fit University & The Y Society, based in Boston, MA.
Sarah is a very confident & fit young woman- I’m so impressed with her and what she’s accomplished in her life. Earlier this year USA TODAY hired her to film a workout video and she received a ton of online backlash from haters online who thought that Sarah was too “thick” to be hosting the video. The controversy caught my eye because of a few reasons. First, Sarah isn’t “overweight” or “thick” or anything close- she’s healthy and the size she is supposed to be. I was disappointed to see people being so negative towards a young adult who is promoting such positive things in the world, and it got me thinking a lot about body image and what the definition of beautiful is nowadays.
I caught up with Sarah to hear her side of the story and how the situation made her feel on episode 41 of This is Life Unfiltered!
Before you completely overthink my use of the word “hustle” it’s the #1 word I’m hearing in the startup/entrepreneur industry right now! I consider myself to be a Type A and incredibly driven individual- it’s how I’ve always been. I’ve never had anyone financially supporting or even backing me in anyway, so I think part of the reason I’ve always been so passionate about my career is because I know that if I fail then I’m failing myself and no one else- and there’s nothing worse than failing yourself. It’s so normal to feel lost and confused when you’re growing up or going through college and not certain what you want to do with your life: I wouldn’t compare yourself to anyone or me because I’m always comparing myself to other people too. You have to find your purpose in life and that takes longer for some than it does for others.
I like to say that we’re all on this journey called life. Some of us will become the next Lady Gaga or Ellen and some of us won’t become that but instead the next generation of doctors, teachers, or even chefs! Don’t get frustrated with the journey because that’s what will lead you to find your mission. Live in the moment!
Check out my video above for my advice on finding your purpose and what to do if you find yourself frustrated with not being passionate about something yet.
I’ve always wanted to learn how to skateboard and surf. I like to consider myself very good at paddle boarding (probably because there’s a lot of security when you’re paddle boarding that you don’t have when you’re surfing) but surfing kind of freaks me out. Not going to lie, sharks also freak me out!
I came across Carson Kropfl when researching young kids impacting the world for my show on Radio Disney, and I met with him yesterday at the studio to talk about his company Locker Board. He basically takes recycled boards and makes them into skateboards that fit into your backpack, which is an awesome invention for kids who are skateboarding to class and need a skateboard that’s a practical size.
When he walked into the studio, I knew I had to get him to teach me how to skateboard after the interview. He started the company when he was 11, and now at the ripe age of 13 he can say that Richard Branson is his main investor for the company. How cool is that?
His interview will come out in a few weeks, but my fearless Friday of this week was learning how to skateboard and get over my ongoing fear of dying! I think I did well, what do you think?

You probably know of Aubrey Anderson-Emmons from Modern Family: she plays Lily, and Lily is the youngest sibling on the show who happens to have 2 dads. Aubrey is the guest on tonights episode of Fearless Everyday, airing at 9 PM PST tonight! Aubrey told me about her love of acting AND horses while we were in the studio, and we bonded over our mutual love of steak and donuts. We wouldn’t entirely eat them together…but that would be a fearless combination to say the least.
