Pix11 News

Halfway into digging through a very delicious chocolate cake from Sonsie last week in Boston, I got an email requesting me for a modeling gig 4 days from then. I was torn between finishing my chocolate cake, and also between accepting or declining the offer. Long story short, I put my phone away, finished my chocolate cake, and proceeded to act like I hadn’t eaten a really indulgent piece of cake when looking back at my email in my hotel room afterwards. That definitely worked.

So on Sunday, I took the bus to NYC for a short 24 hour stay to shoot for Pix11 Monday morning. I got up around 6, headed for a coffee + donut snack (geez, I’m a bad model) before heading to the studio up by Grand Central. What attracted me to this shoot? The fact that the segment was on hiding holiday bulge. Aka me. Aka also probably you. Aka also probably 3/4 of America that likes to eat food during the holidays. And not gluten-free, vegan, paleo, low-carb, tasteless food, I mean actual food. But shout-out to the people that can stick with all those boring food groups above. You inspire me.

Now feed me some butter cake.

Anyway, I got to rock the sickest pair of stretchy denim, silver heels, and a pick poodle sweater. The stylist originally put me in a blazer, though my bra didn’t work, so we switched looks. I also kind of felt like pound cake in the decided look. That’s ok, who doesn’t want to look like a fluffy piece of cake?

I really like being on set. There’s a certain feeling you get the minute before the lights go up that astonishes you. In between the massive stomach fluttering you have (will I fall in these heels?) you feel confident, and somewhat beautiful. As most of you know, I was never a girl, and still rarely am, that ever felt beautiful like other people would describe themselves as, so sometimes getting glam, even for a few hours, is necessary.

I seriously dig how relaxed this shoot was. No agents, no crazy producers or screaming models, and definitely no one making comments about anyones appearance. And yes, that means weight. The models were healthy, and natural. I really admire that.

Now, here is a cupcake I ate after the shoot. Told you I’m a bad model.

Merry Christmas. I love each and every one of you for supporting me on this journey. I’d give you all some cake if I could, but I can’t, so therefore I’ll just eat cake for you.

Life is Good!

Last week, I headed to Boston to visit my favorite people over at Life is Good. I’m a huge fan of the company, and we had discussed meeting/collaborating for quite some time now, so it was exciting to finally have the chance to be with the team and get creative juices flowing!

I headed over to downtown Boston pretty early in the morning, and spent almost my entire day touring the offices, meeting the team, and getting lunch (salmon + soba noodle salad with dumplings) across the street. I’ve never met such a passionate, intricate, and experienced team like Life is Good. Every single design is made in studio, and the employees are exuberant, funny, and incredibly interesting people to talk with. Most of them hail from “boring” corporate companies, like Hollister and J.Jill, and they all said the reason they switched to Life is Good was because they wanted to have fun with their job. No one at Life is Good is sitting at their desk filing paperwork for hours upon hours. The founders encourage workers to go out for lunch, sit outside, or head to the gym on their daily break. Can I work at Life is Good?

Not to mention, the office is INSANELY rad. Items are all decked out in wood, and there is a fancy bar and stage setup for when they host events. There is minimal color around the office, yet the staff are all the color the environment really needs to shine. That’s how cool they are.

After a crazy busy and exhausting day, I headed to Sonsie for dinner, on Newbury Street. We feasted on the most incredible gnocchi, brie and butternut squash pizza, and pumpkin gluten-free desserts. My favorite part? The gnocchi, along with the healthy and light fish of the day that was suggested to me. I definitely needed to refresh after a long work day with a bunch of veggies and some lean protein. No perfect work day is finished before a few rounds of dessert, though.

I returned late last night from a very eventful few days in Manhattan. Sometimes, you need a few days to get away from your “normal” life and throw yourself into a new scene. I went to a real estate party at a $6 million dollar penthouse, began Thursday morning with flying yoga (post to follow) and had a phenomenal dinner with Bartaco at home yesterday. I’m so excited for what is coming in the new year, like several collaborations with charities and many, many panels + conferences where I’ll actually be speaking this time.

2015 is about to be really, really, good.

P.S. Y’all know how I completely bombed public high school, and managed to succeed at my greatest level once I transferred to online school. Even with my public high school experience, a teacher I had sophomore year for biology just wrote this article on me. You can read it here. Regardless of the fact that the article is centered around me *blushing* this article demonstrates the true power of a teenager, that I didn’t even realize until this article showed up in my email box a few days ago. Teenagers have the chance to change this world in every aspect.
