Fly Crew

Women are fly AF. Flywheel makes you even flyer.

I spend most of my time working, eating, and working out. Funny, right? How often do you meet someone who “works” in fashion that spends equal amounts of time eating and working out? Nope, I don’t just eat kale and lemon water. I’m talking cake when I feel like it, chocolate milk after an intense workout, copious amounts of coffee, lots of grilled chicken…I’m a human, not a robot.

When I travel, getting a workout in is just as important to me as getting any work done is. If I’m sitting on a long flight, all I can think about is getting off of my flight, chugging a bottle of water down, and going on a nice run to clear my mind.

On my hunt for fresher and cooler fitness studios, I came across Flywheel a few years ago. SoulCycle was the first chic fitness studio to pop up and gain the attraction of everyone from Upper East Side moms to teen girls, but now, Flywheel is the latest and greatest cycling studio. Whether you’re looking for a barre class, or a spin class, Flywheel is different because they offer classes that aren’t just spin driven classes.

I’ve been popping in and out of the Boston studio this month, taking a spin class here, and a barre class there, and my body is already getting stronger. Working out makes you feel SO good, I never know how many times I can say that to someone without sounding preachy. What’s my tip to getting yourself to the gym? Throw on a super cute look (fashion and sweat actually align quite well), get yourself hyped for whatever workout you’re doing, and bring a friend along, too. You won’t regret getting up and working out; I promise.

Batiste + Self Magazine

The Fashion Lane team headed to NYC this weekend to cover the SELF Magazine x Batiste event at Spring Studios!

This past weekend, part of the Fashion Lane team headed to SELF Magazine’s UpNOut event, hosted at Spring Studios in Manhattan. I was in Miami for Women Empower Expo, but I didn’t want to risk missing out on such a fun and inspirational event, so I just had to send one of my writers to attend and cover!

The event was a two-day long fitness experience that combines the top fitness classes from New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Vancouver and London with superstar trainers, treats, style, and more. A range of media + bloggers showed up to get their sweat on in the heart of the city.

My writer got to choose from over twenty fitness classes, but she decided on 305 Fitness. I’ve actually been partnering with the 305 location in Boston, so having her attend the rad dance class in NYC made for a cool contrast. It’s one of my favorite new workouts!

“305 Fitness is a dance cardio workout based in New York City with other studios in DC and Boston. Each class combines high-intensity rhythmic cardio, sports drills (like sprint intervals) and sculpting.  During the 55-minute class, a live DJ bumps the latest club tracks and keeps the lights low.”

Whether you’re in NYC, or Boston, 305 Fitness gets your heart racing, your legs fired up, and your mind free of stress and pumping with adrenaline.

Batiste was one of the sponsors offering a hairstyle lounge where attendees could get braids/other styles before or after a workout. What I love most about the line is that the products are perfect when you’re in a time crunch, like most of us always are following a morning or evening workout. My writer got her hair done and freshened up with their incredible line of dry shampoo. I actually adore the light blonde product from  Batiste, because it matches my hair color yet doesn’t look unnatural when applied to my scalp.

She left the studio with a selection of goodies from Yogi Tea, Suave Professionals, Nature’s Bakery and Vega. I wish I could’ve been there, but I feel like I basically was once I went to a 305 Fitness class last night AND looked through these pictures all weekend!

Empower the World

Women are changing the game. We’re the leaders, the movers, and the shakers of this world.

BCBGMAXAZRIA dress, Boohoo heels

This weekend was amazing. I turned 19, spoke at Women Empower Expo on my birthday, got glam with Swank Blow Dry Bar, and ate my way through Miami with my closest friends at Icebox Cafe.

My panel on Saturday was about social media, growing your brand, and how to not let it take over your life. Speaking to a bunch of a adults is such a different experience compared to speaking to a bunch of teens during my MINT talks. I love the contrast of both. Adults ask more tailored and savvy questions, while teens ask more questions relating to their bodies and social statuses. I was so impressed with the amount of people who showed up to see me talk, along with people who showed up to the conference overall. It makes me really happy that people are finally going to begin to let women takeover, which is something this world has been waiting for for quite a long time.

Check out this great Q&A video from the conference of me, and stay tuned for my next newsletter coming up NEXT WEEK! What shall I giveaway?

What’s Up, Florida!

How does social media affect your daily life?

Hello, Fort Lauderdale. I’m here! What better way to spend my 19th birthday than speaking at Women Empower Expo tomorrow and then spending the night having a blast with my girls in Miami. Sometimes, working on your birthday isn’t always a bad thing.

My panel at Women Empower Expo tomorrow is on social media, and creating a balance. That’s a topic I’ve been speaking on frequently lately, because I’ve witnessed how strong the power of social media is. Kids all the way to adults are having trouble finding a balance and not letting the power of social media completely rule their lives. It’s a tough topic to combat, because social media isn’t something that will ever disappear. If anything, social media continues to rapidly grow and gain power. It’s a great thing we have access to, but it’s also something that we need to train ourselves to learn how to actively handle. No cell phones at the dinner table, please!

My friend, Hannah, drove up from school to spend the weekend with me. We’re staying at the Aqua Hotel, right now, and thanks to Visit Fort Lauderdale, we’ve got an extensive itinerary planned. I’m wishing I wasn’t working, but at least I get to work with access to the beach and the sun.

Now, it’s time for a massage with Zeel at my hotel and then some girls shopping later this afternoon. I couldn’t imagine a better day!

Hope you’re joining me at Women Empower Expo TOMORROW! Tweet me how social media has affected you/continues to affect you all day today, and you may just make it into the presentation tomorrow.

If you could be one place right now, where would you be?

Naturalizer boots, Banana Republic jacket, Primark skirt

If I could be one place right now, it’d be exactly where I am. I used to spend way too much time wishing I was on a beach, on a private plane, or “further” along in my career, until I realized that becoming happy with your life (and who you are) stems from becoming content with the present.

Once you stop worrying about life factors like money, status, and relationships, you become immediately more satisfied with the life you’re living. I find so many people constantly talking about how they wish they were doing something different with their life. What do I tell them? Go do it. Stop coming up with excuses. Start following your dreams, experimenting with new opportunities and experiences, and save your money.

That may be a lil too much inspiration for a Tuesday, but I figured there is always someone out there that needs to be told that following your dreams is always acceptable.

Also, I turn 19 on Saturday. My week of unlimited cupcakes begins now.

You know what I love most about fall? The colors.

J.Crew via Tanger Outlets pants + top, Rolex watch, Dior sunglasses, Nike sneakers

There is nothing more relaxing than a fall day. Between activities like drinking apple cider and apple picking, wearing maroon and orange, and hoping a clown doesn’t come and attack you on a hay ride, fall is my favorite season. Also, can we just talk about how f***** up this clown situation is? What is wrong with this world!?

I’m turning 19 next week, and I’m celebrating by speaking at the Women Empower Expo in Fort Lauderdale. I always end up speaking at conferences on my birthday, which is super funny because you’d think I would want to take my birthday off of work. As I’ve said before, if you love your job, it rarely feels like you’re working. Now that I know what I’m doing on my birthday, what should I wear!? My panel is on social media, and I’m expecting a strong turnout of older women, which is exciting for me. I love speaking to people of all ages, and getting a perspective on how social media is warping the world from teens + moms is intriguing.

I’ve been saving these orange J.Crew pants to wear on the perfect day, and since today feels like a lovely 65 degrees, I’m going to be wearing them all day today and tomorrow. Once you find a brand that offers clothing in your price range that fits you, don’t hesitate to splurge on a key seasonal pieces. J.Crew isn’t then cheapest store, but the J.Crew outlet always impresses me. I got this shirt for $20, and the pants for $40!

Sometimes, I’m hesitant to buy clothing because I’m not sure how it will fit me. Yes, you can go into a changing room and easily try something on, though for those of you who have also dealt with body images, that can much easier said than done. If I don’t feel totally great one day, how is trying on a pair of jeans (they’re always so tight on me) going to make me feel more confident?

Learning to be 100% confident is a daily task, and reminding yourself how beautiful you are every morning makes the process a little bit easier. Trust me. The size of your pants doesn’t determine the type of person that you are.

P.S. Did you get the first newsletter I sent out? I can’t wait to start giving stuff away, offering advice on a range of topics, and teaming up with new brands for the newsletter. Subscribe at the link at the top of A Life in the Fashion Lane!

Coffee & Clothes

Why do coffee and clothes go together oh so perfectly?

Does anyone else feel like their world revolves around coffee? From the minute I wakeup, to the 4 PM slump we all get, all I ever crave is coffee. I bought some pumpkin coffee cups, and I put maple syrup and cinnamon in them to make my own little pumpkin latte. Along with chunky sweaters and combat boots, it’s all I want!

I went to Providence yesterday to meet my friend and hang out for the day. Providence is such a cool city. We wandered around, took pictures, and ate at my favorite coffee shop, Seven Stars Bakery. I’ve been wearing this thrifted camo jacket I bought ever since I found it a few weeks ago at a store in Boston. I’m not a huge fan of camo, but since the trend has recently come back around, I’m trying this one out. I almost felt like the world was speaking to me by offering a jacket this cool for $20. I couldn’t resist buying it!

I’m gearing up for the Women Empower Expo next week in Florida on my 19th birthday, have you bought tickets yet!? They’re super cheap, so get them while they’re at this price!

My newsletter launches tomorrow, make sure to sign up for tons of free stuff and BTS action at the link at the top of this page!

Stop Bullying With Me

For those of you who don’t know, I was severely bullied most of my childhood…

For those of you who don’t know, I was severely bullied most of my childhood…from mean girls in school, to bullying via the internet: I’ve been through it all.

When I started blogging, I never intended to openly speak about my issues, or start a program like MINT. It wasn’t until I realized the effect that bullying and social media have on young adults that I began to do my research into how we can alter the way young adults view themselves due to the internet.

I’ve teamed up with Bridg-it, an anti-bullying platform, to bring awareness to bullying in schools. The best trait that Bridg-it has is that you can anonymously report bullying to your school. I know that if I had had the option to report what I was going through without having to call out names, I would’ve been much more prone to report it.

The campaign video is below, shot by KSL Collective in Boston. Hair and makeup done by Blo Blow Dry Bar in the South End, and outfit via Primark.

Enjoy the video! We can stop bullying in its tracks: you just have to be brave enough to stand up and fight it.
