Brooklyn Graffiti

Sperry Topsider boots, Asos turtleneck, Vintage scarf

Besides the fact that my roommates wake me up around 4 AM every single day (over the past few weeks, I’ve learned that I fall asleep to the sound of rain soundtrack on Spotify, ocean waves don’t do it for me) living in NYC has been nothing but a dream. Unlike CT, where I continued to feel sheltered and uninspired, New York is just another place. I wake up in the morning actually excited to work, go to meetings, and dress up in something other than sweatpants. Or, at least if I’m wearing sweatpants, there is a blazer on top…

Yesterday, my two close friends Becky and Rebecca came to Brooklyn, and we met at one of Brooklyn’s trendiest joins: Five Leaves. You’ve probably seen their insane honeycomb ricotta banana pancakes on Instagram, so I felt like I hadddd to try them, for the insta, of course. They were up to par. Rebecca and Becky got the avocado toast and kale salad, which was also tasty. I had a job interview prior, so I was wearing a vintage skirt and $10 Asos turtleneck all day. For a look under $40 (not including the boots), I’d say comfort and sophistication was hand in hand.

Summer with Aero

If you ask me one company that’s got a kick ass marketing game, it’s Aeropostale. I began working with them about a year ago now, and have watched their company totally evolve, due to a genius marketing plan. Aeropostale knows exactly how to get young consumers interested in their product, and that’s by 1) the prices and 2) the models. Ever heard of Nash Grier, Cameron Dallas, and Bethany Mota? Apparently, 5,000 girls show up to an event Aeropostale hosts with Bethany Mota, making it a “duh, let’s give her a collection” moment.

The press preview was held yesterday at the Herald Square showroom, and we sipped on yummy mango drinks, and had tastes of tiny fish tacos and fresh sushi. I have never wanted summer to come as badly as I did when I stepped into the S/S preview!

Aeropostale’s new line is nothing short of adorable. It’s fine, yet fresh, and colorful. I sent pictures to my boyfriend several times of tank tops I wanted to buy for him from Aeropostale, and we both giggled at how neither of us ever expected to be saying we actually wanted to wear something from this brand. Also, can I have that pineapple top, please?

A Night with Julianne Moore

H&M dress, Anthropologie clutch, Asos heels

Last night, I was invited to the Museum of the Moving Image event honoring Julianne Moore, on the Upper East Side. It feels like it’s been quite some time since I’ve been out on the town in NYC, at an event, not just a restaurant. When you haven’t dressed up in a while, you definitely start to miss getting glam, why is why I knew it was time to switch things up and get out.

A few weeks ago, I dragged my mom in to H&M with me, in an attempt to catch a few end of season dresses. I was in luck. I left the store with 3 dresses, for under $75…TOGETHER. This dress was $25! I’m not one to get caught looking like an adult mother, but I fell in love with the simplicity and classiness of this studded ensemble. I snagged this Anthro clutch last season for $75 from $200, and I knew the minute the dress hit my closet that this was the clutch that would make the outfit. If you’re on the market for a few new outfits and are also on a tight budget, get yourself over to your mall in the new few days to get some of the best sales around before they bring in new merchandise.

Just because your outfit isn’t full of designer labels, doesn’t mean you won’t look like you easily could have Kim Kardashian’s budget.

P.S. As many teens my age get ready to head to college in a few months, most are busy prepping with expected expenses. Since this post is about saving money, I highly suggest checking out Campus Book Rentals, which is the go-to site for college students looking to rent textbooks. They’ve just partnered with Operation Smile
to donate some of the proceeds from book rentals to this incredible organization.

The Boyfriend Trend

boyfriend

Girls love dressing like their boyfriend. Girls love dressing like they just woke up, when really, they spent the entire morning making sure they perfected their “I just woke up” *but look incredibly sexy* look. If you ask my boyfriend, I’m always stealing his sweaters and shirts because they are incredibly comfortable, and I kinda just adore the idea of wearing his clothing out of the door in the morning. Regardless of whether you have a boyfriend whose clothing you can steal, or you’re just looking to act like you do and still think boys suck, this is the guide for you.

This is a trend that you can take in SO many different directions, and play up in multiple ways. My #1 tip is to embrace the oversized look, because most girls are tinier than their boyfriend, therefore, don’t shy away from looking like the clothing doesn’t necessarily fit. If you’re more looking to just rock a plaid shirt with ripped denim and take that as a BF style, throw on a knit beanie or pair of aviators. I’d probably match my boyfriend if I wore a plaid shirt and beanie, with the shirt being my correct size.

Happy Sunday. I’m about to go eat a pound of bread now, cause, bread.

Styled by Sam: Golden Globes 2015

Samantha is A Life in the Fashion Lane’s stylish college contributor. She attends college in Boston and adores New York City and writing.

There’s nothing I love more than a red carpet, and last night’s red carpet was no exception. The Golden Globe Awards come at a perfect time for the fashion world – as an opportunity to portray an array of new trends for the new year. I studied every note-able Golden Globe gown and picked up on a few (trends) for the new year. So, grab a pencil and paper and take notes on some of 2015’s biggest trends!

 BLUE

The color blue was a major trend on the red carpet this year, worn by some of today’s biggest celebs. We saw everything from a light powder blue to a dazzling and deep navy shade of blue. There is no doubt in my mind that blue will be big in the new year (and I’m not talking about Beyonce’s baby).

Loving the couple color-coordination going on here – almost like a red carpet prom.

My personal favorite navy blue gown of the night – simply stunning!

 EMPIRE WAIST

We also saw quite a few waist-accentuating gowns at the Golden Globes, and this is the most anticipated trend! The empire waist has been around for centuries and there is a reason for that. Don’t believe me? Then take a look for yourself! An empire silhouette is flattering on every shape and if you already haven’t, I highly suggest you try this trend out.  Grab a peplum top in your closet and belt it for ultimate appeal.

I can confidently say that Mrs. Clooney left us all speechless. Nuff said.

 PLUNGING NECKLINE

A style made famous by Jennifer Lopez can now be seen on a wide range of celebrities, alike. The plunging neckline is sexy and the perfect amount of “wow!” for a red carpet. This year’s Golden Globes was no exception to this increasingly popular trend. Grab your double-sided tape and make 2015 the year of the plunging neckline!

Kate Hudson – as seen on countless best-dressed lists.

 YELLOW

Yet another color trend spotted on this year’s red carpet is yellow. Yellow is a scary color for most as it has a tendency to make you appear washed-out or like a giant Easter egg.  In observing the fabulous women in yellow dresses at the Golden Globes, I have found that finding the perfect shade of yellow is key. Also, an important tip when rocking such a bright color is to keep everything very simple – makeup is natural and accessories are kept minimalistic.

 See you soon!

Live in the Streets

Under Armour pants, Francesca’s boots, Delia’s sweater, H&M plaid shirt

Hello friends! It has been way too long since I’ve written a post. Life has been absolute madness. I moved into my new apartment yesterday, and have been running around to meetings and insanity for the rest of the week. I’m finally having a little downtown right now, drinking a latte in a neighborhood coffee shop (apartment tip #1: always find a local coffee shop you can head to every morning, close to your apartment) before taking the bus home to CT to see my friends for the night.

Yesterday, I got to hang out with one of my close friends, Bianca, from Mizzfit, and we got to shoot with Why I Love New York, which is a popular Instagram page detailing one mans adventures to find the most inspiring people in New York. I was honored he wanted to photograph little ole’ me.

I also got to tour a few office spaces yesterday, and am busy planning my next steps in designing my first app. Life is crazy. Life is also very exciting. Everyday I realize, more and more, how starting a fashion blog at age 12 changed my entire life.

I wish I had more time to chat, but I’ve got to go grab the bus to get home! See you soon!
