New Year, New Start

3 January 2015

Hello, 2015! It’s crazy good to see ya. I didn’t expect you to come so soon, but you’re here, and for that, I’m grateful.

This New Years Eve was different than the past. Last year, I stayed with a different friend from camp who lives in Miami, and we went across NYC in skimpy dresses, hanging with friends at different parties and sneaking a cocktail here and there. This year, I rented a room at the McCarren Hotel & Pool, where it feels like I’m always staying, for my two best friends and I. I didn’t realize what a best friend was up until late this year, and unfortunately, to become the strongest person you desire to be, letting people go in life is necessary. I can’t say I expected to be best friends (basically family) with the people I am and will be going forward, but there is no one else I’d rather have supporting me on this insane journey than these people.

So, I rented us a suite at the hotel, because why not go all out for NYE? This is the first holiday where I actually have a real people JOB! Scary! The view from this hotel is one of the most incredible views of the city. I adore how quaint and quiet the hotel is, masked away behind the craziness of New York City, in the perfect Brooklyn area.

We decided to hang out around the city for a while, and then head back to the hotel to get ready for my friends party. No holiday dressing comes without a tale. I decided on a new bow tie skirt from Aeropostale, fit with a white top from H&M, and this crazy stunning blazer I purchased a few days ago. Minimalistic chic, I’ll call it.

A few minutes after putting makeup on and getting dressed, the zipper on my skirt completely tore in half. I wasn’t prepared with other options (a fashionista should always be prepared with other options) so I clipped the skirt together and hid the broken zip with my blazer. Why is it that the world can never make dressing easy?

From there, we headed to my friends party who attends NYU, and caught up with her and her friends. I was invited by The John Dory to attend their New Years Eve celebration as well, so we snuck out of the party a little later to get prepped for a midnight champagne toast. John Dory was filled with people multi times our age, but that’s ok. I’m used to being surrounded by folks the age of my parents, but my friends…not so much.

Oysters, shrimp, cocktails, a stylish club, and lobster rolls made for a quintessential midnight setting. I can’t say I wasn’t tasting pizza in my mouth while stuffing my face with shrimp, because I was, but new year means new me. I’ll just opt for gluten-free pizza going forward.

That was my NYE adventure! Did you do anything fun? Did your skirt break too!?
