112: Broglie Box Founder Julia Broglie

#LifeUnfiltered
Julia Broglie
Julia Broglie was inspired to create BroglieBox LLC ox after experiencing her own mental health challenges as a young adult and losing her older brother Justin to suicide when he was just 24.

Justin’s passing inspired Julia to imagine a new way to deliver support and connection to those struggling with mental health challenges in today’s hectic, fast-paced and often impersonal world.

The idea for BroglieBox was born: an all-inclusive care package that delivers tools and resources for mental wellness and stress relief in a way that feels warm, lighthearted, and fun.

I sat down with Julia to talk about how to keep your mental health in check during this crisis. Parents & kids, this episode is a must listen for you!

Managing Your Mental Health During A Time Of Crisis

I’ve never worked from home. Between my summit being canceled and everyone feeling on such edge, it’s a difficult time for the world and community right now. If you’re like me and you work for yourself, or you have a family and have to be home right now, here’s some ideas for ways to manage being home while taking care of your mental health.

mental health management

Attempt to maintain as much of a normal schedule as you can while working from home. Wake up around the same time, eat your meals at the same time (don’t snack all day!) and put on normal clothing, even if that means workout pants instead of sweatpants.

I’ve been working from my bed/ desk instead of going into WeWork so I’m working in pajamas, but to each their own.

Since gyms are closed, it’s important that you don’t focus on eating all day long simply because you’re home. Unless you’re hungry, of course!

Meditate, read, and relax. This can be a mentally and financially difficult time for so many because many of us are out of work (myself included, all of my contracts are on hold) so being kind to yourself is important. I’ve been watching the news to see if any loans for small business owners become available, as well as places to donate my extra supplies or time to since people are in way more need than I am.

You should prepare yourself that your finances might be a bit out of wack for the time being but we are all in the same boat. We’ll get through this! If you have to take out some money from your savings if you have any, do that. This is an extenuating circumstance.

If you’re good at tasks like social media, graphic design or digital marketing, consider making profiles on Upwork or Fiverr. This will keep you busy during a down time while letting you fine tune some skills to utilize when this mayhem ends!

If you find yourself getting extra anxious at home, download Barre3 or Obe Fitness. You can get free trials on each, and a little sweat never fails to make my anxiety easier to cope with.

Catch the founder of Broglie Box on This is Life Unfiltered tomorrow for more techniques on dealing with your mental health during this time.

A Note From Alexa

To everyone who is suffering with the virus or has a loved one who is, I send my love to you.

This is one of the hardest posts I’ve ever written. Since I started my journey in 2011, I’ve worked relentlessly to push boundaries and inspire. When I had the idea to launch the Be Fearless Summit, I had no idea of the number of people I would reach and the drive I would eventually find inside myself to put together that first event.

There is an overwhelming amount of work involved with a summit, along with a financial responsibility that I work countless hours on as it’s my passion and commitment. This, after all, is my company, my love, my heart.

I would not be truthful if I said that I was not in debt from this mission, but as a founder you have to push your boundaries and make decisions that will pay off in the long run.

As most of you know, the next summit was scheduled for April 1st, 2020 at UC Berkeley.

It is with my deepest regret that I have to share I need to postpone until further notice, due to the dire health state of our country. This is was not an easy one to make, but keeping you safe, while you live out a fearless life must be priority number one.

Please know your support and messages of absolute kindness have not only inspired me, but reminded me that being an entrepreneur will never be easy, even when you’re at the peak.

Xo,

Alexa

3 Ways To Calm Your Anxiety During COVID-19

#LifeUnfiltered

anxiety during covid-19

The world is an a total state of panic right now, myself included. Though I usually try and avoid reading the news along with spending too much time on social media during times like this, it’s hard to avoid talking about an unfortunate epidemic OR avoid hearing someone else talk about it. Everywhere I turn, someone is either freaking out or about to freak out!

Let me remind you, this will pass. The world is in a scary place right now but this virus will be controlled in a matter of time. Until then, we just have to hold on.

Anxiety levels are insanely high right now for everyone, so here are three ways to cope with your anxiety and stress for the time being.

1. GET OFF OF SOCIAL MEDIA!

I can’t preach this enough. Going on Instagram and Twitter, even CNN, only will give you more anxiety. If your school is requiring you to take classes at home or your job is requiring you to work from home, do that. Delete Instagram and Twitter for the time being (I find these to be the worst apps to look at during times when the world is in distress) and instead go buy or order a book, some of your favorite magazines, and even a pint of ice cream. Are you truly feeling better after scrolling through Instagram right now? Think of that when you anxiety comes in extra heavy after being on social media.

2. Use Headspace or Calm

I’ve been a Headspace fan for a while. It’s the app that’s helping many deal with stress (myself included!) Calm is free and Headspace gives you a few weeks free to test out the app- try it! The minute you feel like you’re stressing out, take 10 minutes (we all can spare 10 minutes) to meditate in a quiet space. I like a guided meditation from Headspace because I’m not good at focusing on meditating on my own, but you may find you’re the opposite and enjoy a meditation that’s not guided. The app Calm can help you find something that’s more of an open meditation if that’s what you’re into.

3. Start journaling

Journaling is a perfect stress outlet. Write down what’s making you anxious in a hard notebook (I like writing in a journal more than the notepad on my phone) and also write down what the worst outcome is with your fear. This will help you put things into perspective during this time.  It’s totally normal to feel overwhelmed and anxious about getting coronavirus or passing it along to someone, but this is out of your control. Just write, breathe, and meditate.

Welcome Hanes to the Be Fearless Summit Lineup!

This is part of a paid partnership with Hanes. All opinions are my own.

wearing hanes hosiery

Did you know that over 80% of women in the United States deal with body image issues? I struggled with an eating disorder when I was younger, as many young women and men do. Social media doesn’t make feeling confident in your skin any easier! If you’re not comparing yourself to someone else, that person is comparing themselves to you.

As a 22-year-old founder, confidence is key in my book. I talk so openly about my mental health and my body to you guys in the hopes that you will stay inspired to be confident in your own skin. I want the struggles you face to be comparable to mine: we are ALL in this together!

That’s why I’m thrilled to announce Hanes as a partner for the Be Fearless Summit. Not only did I grow up wearing Hanes tights, it’s a company that I feel confident in sharing with you to make you feel more confident. Hanes will be participating in our “swag bags” by gifting some of their best styles available at Target, and I’ll be wearing a lot of cute tights over the next few weeks on my social media!

Join me in celebrating every body shape and bringing attention to brands that make a difference in the world! #Hanes #HanesHosiery

111: THE BOYS BEHIND THE BAND AUTOGRAF

#LifeUnfiltered

The Band Auotgraf

EPISODE 111:

A month or so ago I was in Seattle alone! My friend canceled on our trip, and in my fearless nature, I had to go still. I went on Spotify and found a concert going on by Autograf, who is an alternative band I’ve followed for a while. I shot them a DM, and got an instant reply inviting me backstage to their Seattle show at The Crocodile. Not only was the show rad, the boys were so grounded and humble which inspired me to ask them on the show.

The boys behind the band Autograf and I sat down to talk on This is Life Unfiltered about imposter syndrome as an artist, how they went from basement parties to viral songs, and the key to staying humble while successful. LISTEN BELOW!

110: Caissie St. Onge Is One Badass Babe

#LifeUnfiltered

EPISODE 110 OF THIS IS LIFE UNFILTERED!

Caissie St. Onge was the Showrunner, Executive Producer and a writer of E!’s late night talk show, “Busy Tonight,” hosted by Busy Philipps and Executive Produced by Tina Fey. She started her career at “The Late Show with David Letterman” and was a writer on all six years of “The Rosie O’Donnell Show” for Warner Brothers. After growing up in Connecticut, St. Onge moved out with little money to pursue a career in entertainment. Her experience working for David Letterman catapulted her into a lucrative career in TV, which she attributes to knowing very little about entertainment initially and just letting the world guide her to success.
